Celebrating a Great Recreation Season
As our Spring Recreation season comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize several of our teams and players for their outstanding seasons, strong playoff runs, and the way they represented Mountainside Softball & Baseball League.
Across both baseball and softball, our players competed hard, supported one another, and showed tremendous growth throughout the season. We are proud of all of our teams, and especially excited to highlight some of the accomplishments from this spring.
Rec Softball — Division 3
This spring, Mountainside hosted teams from Twin Boro, Springfield, and Rahway for the 2026 Spring Softball Season in Division 3, which includes players in 2nd and 3rd grade. The division featured nine teams, including two from Mountainside: Boston College and LSU.
Both Mountainside teams had strong seasons and entered the playoffs as the No. 2 and No. 6 seeds. Fittingly, they faced each other in the first round after two very close regular-season matchups — one decided by a single run and the other ending in a tie. Their playoff game was another tight contest, with Boston College edging LSU, 2-1, to advance.
Boston College then faced Vortex from Springfield in the semifinals and earned a 4-2 win to move on to the championship game against NC State from Twin Boro. NC State entered the final with one of the strongest offenses in the division, but Boston College answered with outstanding defense, strong pitching, and a four-run rally in the 4th inning to complete an exciting 6-3 come-from-behind victory.
As great as the championship win was, one of the best moments came from the support shown by the Mountainside community. Players from LSU made signs for their friends on Boston College and cheered them on throughout the championship game alongside their fellow Mountainside softball families.
Congratulations to Boston College on winning the Division 3 championship, and to both Mountainside teams for representing MSBL so well — with great play on the field and friendship, sportsmanship, and community spirit on the sidelines.

Rec Baseball — Major League Division
Our Intertown Major League Baseball Division, made up of 5th and 6th grade players, had a highly competitive season this spring, with strong performances from all three Mountainside teams.
The Marlins, Cubs, and White Sox each represented Mountainside well in a division that also included teams from Roselle Park, Kenilworth, and Springfield. All three Mountainside teams made strong pushes in the playoffs, with the White Sox advancing to the semifinals and the Marlins and Cubs meeting in the championship game.
In the championship, the Marlins earned a 4-2 victory over the Cubs, completing an outstanding season. With the win, the Marlins capped off an undefeated 11-0-1 regular season and brought home the Major League championship.
Congratulations to the Marlins on their championship, and to the Cubs and White Sox for their excellent seasons and strong playoff runs. All three teams represented Mountainside and MSBL with great effort, competitiveness, and sportsmanship throughout the season.

Rec Baseball — Minor League Division
Our Intertown Minor League Baseball Division, made up of 3rd and 4th grade players, had an outstanding season this spring, highlighted by a tremendous showing from our Mountainside teams.
All four Mountainside teams finished in the top four spots in the standings in a 13-team division that also included teams from Roselle Park, Kenilworth, and Springfield. The Brewers, Yankees, Reds, and Rays combined for an impressive 36-10-3 overall record, showing just how strong the Mountainside group was throughout the season.
The playoffs brought even more excitement, with the Brewers and Yankees meeting in a highly competitive championship game. The Brewers came away with a 4-3 victory, capping off an excellent 11-2 season and earning the Minor League championship.
Congratulations to the Brewers on their championship season, and to the Yankees, Reds, and Rays for their outstanding seasons and strong representation of Mountainside and MSBL.

Rec Baseball — American League Division
Our American League Baseball Division, made up of 1st and 2nd grade players, had another fun and competitive season centered around the 2nd Annual Defensive Runs Saved Challenge.
This season-long contest challenged teams to record the most defensive outs on balls in play, helping players stay engaged, focused, and excited about making plays in the field. The race stayed competitive throughout the season, with the Padres taking over first place from the Mets in the final week.
The Padres finished with 113 outs across 60 innings played, earning this year’s coveted Gold Glove trophies. Across the full division — including the Padres, Mets, Rockies, A’s, and Pirates — players recorded an impressive 488 outs over 300 innings of play.
Congratulations to the Padres on winning the Defensive Runs Saved Challenge, and to all of our American League players for their hard work, improvement, and enthusiasm throughout the season.

Thank you to all of our players, coaches, volunteers, families, umpires, and division directors for helping make this another successful Recreation season. None of this happens without the time, energy, and support of our MSBL community.
Congratulations again to all of our teams on a great spring season!
